Occasionally, I fall in love with a female singer. (It’s a cliché, I know, but I also play football, so leave me alone.) My latest girl crush is an Israeli-born singer/songwriter, Rosi Golan, who doesn’t even have a wikipedia entry. So, until she gets one, I’m going to go around telling people I discovered her. (Perez Hilton is asleep at the wheel on this one.)
I came across Rosi a few months ago, as I was searching for songs by my favorite heavily bearded folk singer, William Fitzsimmons. (Do click on that link. The beard is a site to behold). Fitzsimmons sings a beautiful duet with Golan called Hazy, which has quickly become my second-favorite love song after the little-known Dave Matthews masterpiece, Oh. (My boyfriend even likes Oh, and he has much better taste in music than I do.)
So, when I learned that Rosi would be playing at Club Passim, I gathered my heavily mustached friend, Christian, and practically skipped to the quaint basement venue, which is connected to a vegetarian restaurant that serves really great salads and really bad wine. There were two other acts—Luke Brindley and Peter Bradley Adams–but Rosi stole the show. Christian loved her song, I Don’t Wanna Wait, presumably because he’s always late. But pretty much everything Rosi sings is brilliant. On her CD, The Drifter & The Gipsy, which you should buy, I especially love Shine, Think of Me, Come Around, and The Drifter & The Gipsy. (If you’re into a cute JC Penney commercial, you can also check out Rosi’s work there.)
Rosi, when you make it big, please remember the little people that got you there!
